Jekyll Island, the nearest faraway place.
For many years Jekyll Island has been called "Georgia's Jewel" and with good reason. Because it is a state park Jekyll is largely undeveloped. History abounds on the Island, from the Colonial days of General Oglethorpe, to the glory days of the millionaire's Jekyll Island Club. Since Jekyll is one of Georgia's smallest barrier islands, you can discover a lot in a day. Be sure to visit Driftwood beach, the Horton House, the Jekyll Island Club historic district, and St. Andrews picnic area to witness the diverse scenery the island offers.
